My eating style
The eating TYPES that Noom identifies are
- Fuel eating - eat for nutrients and energy (this is the goal!)
- Fun eating - eat for pleasure (but, with some of this too of course)
- Fog eating - act mindlessly and inhale the whole bag of doritos
- Storm eating - when you feel like you can't stop, even when you're not hungry
The eating STYLES that Noom identifies - the HOW of eating rather than the APPROACH to eating - are
- Emotional eating - you're not hungry, you're stressed, anxious or just bored.
- Fast fooding - that McDonalds addiction thing. Fast food doesn't fill you up but is sure presses the right buttons to keep you coming back for more.
- Grateful Gastronoming - this is mindful food preparation. If you grow or carefully source your food, and lovingly prepare your food, then it will have more inherent value and you'll eat less of it, as well as savouring it and enjoying it more.
- Task tasting - Eat unconsciously while doing something else. Probably with your phone.
- Food fretting - the crash diet thing where every gram of macronutrient must be stressed over. Much of those thought distortions like all-or-nothing thinking and labelling are from Food Fretting!
- Social snacking - out with friends where the conviviality is the driver. You eat MUCH more with friends than alone and the bigger the group the more you eat.
How do I measure up?
When I'm at work I ... pick up food (fast fooding). Ha, the option to go away from work for lunch and take a decent period of time to eat isn't there, because Noom is American.
When I'm at home I ... eat with others (social snacking) and focus on finishing my meal (grateful gastronoming)
When I go out to eat I ... go out with a big group (social snacking)
